Type1 Superstar ✨Stella✨

Stella is my T1D superstar after being diagnosed with Type 1 on 4th Feb 2025.

We started to notice Stell loosing weight at the end of 2024. She wasn’t herself but we attributed that to a big growth spurt and busy end of year life. It got worse over Xmas break with a thirst she couldn’t quench and up in the night sleep walking and waking up in weird places. After what we thought would be a quick check up at the GP she was sent to emergency in DKA and spent a week in hospital. The most important thing to her was getting back to school and her friends and she was so brave in that transition of back to school.

She doesn’t let T1D stop her though she’s a super active 8 year old who loves Netball, basketball, swimming, dance and spending time with friends. She has made some great connections already with some mates in the T1D space, she sold beanies this winter for Type 1 foundation and she wrote a letter to Prime Minister about changing the laws to let T1Ds be in the defence force. Our baby will change the world.

She is currently using the G7 sensor and MDI and when she’s ready she will try an Insulin pump but for now we are learning every day and definitely have our ups and downs but I’m so proud of her and how she has taken all of this on.

Life will never be the same for any of us and she might not live the life with had envisioned but maybe just maybe this will set her journey on a different path but whatever happens we know she will tackle life head on.
