From our humble beginnings the initial aim was to reach all of Geelong.
With a unique vision to support and connect families who are living with this disease daily. We are now supporting over 1000 families Australia wide.
With the demand growing weekly, we plan to expand our services into every state of Australia...
Ange Liston-McCaughley. Founder & CEO Type1 Foundation
To launch the Type1 Foundation Ange Liston – McCaughley committed to running 10 Marathons in every state of Australia within 1 year to raise awareness of type1 diabetes. This achievement gained huge media attention and raised over $25,000. This allowed Ange Liston-McCaughley to set up the Type1 Foundation.
To date has distributed over 1300 care packages to families all around Australia at diagnosis, in hospital or on arrival at home. In 2020, we have delivered over 590 newly diagnosed care packs to a child who has been with type 1 diabetes.
Facilitating and funding Type1 Mums Dinners, launching them interstate and into over 10 towns connecting over 60 families. These Dinners are relaxed, inclusive, friendly and very popular amongst our Type1 community. “The Type1 Mums Dinners are the glue that sticks our community together, as you connect the mums then you connect the whole family”.
In 2016 AFL Legend and Collingwood great Lou Richards passed away and chose the Type1 Foundation as his chosen charity at his state funeral.
Facilitated and funded 4 Kids Diabetes Camps, Surfing weekends for families living with Type1 in Anglesea Vic. Allowing over 80 families to attend camp with no financial barrier.
Collaborating with St John of God Diabetes Team and Barwon Health to create a working partnership to fund the purchase of a bank of CGMS (Constant glucose monitors) that can be lent out to local families. CGM's are cutting edge technology in the management of Type 1 diabetes and are extremely helpful in assisting out of hospital management for newly diagnosed families.
Designed, funded and created the Type 1 Diabetes Symptom Poster and Awareness Campaign partnering with the Primary Health Network distributing to over 3000 GP and medical centres waiting rooms all around Australia, as well as schools, childcare centres and maternal health centres.
Subsidised family camps for over 30 plus children, to allow them to attend Kids Diabetes Camps at no cost.
Funded and supported the development of The T1D Learning Centre, online training modules that have been introduced into over 1000 Australian schools. These online training modules allow staff access to education and the necessary knowledge about Type 1 Diabetes and how to best deal with the associated issues at school; similar to other educational software used for Autism and Anaphylaxis.
Hosted over 30 family friendly events throughout Geelong and Victoria allowing over 250 families to connect to one another
Amalgamated with Type1 Voice to advocate and support families all over Australia.
Created a Penpal program, allowing children and teenagers to connect via letters.
Lou the Dog our cuddly mascot has kept over 890 children smiling in hospital and upon diagnosis.
Introduced Type1 Mums Dinners nationally, with over 12 events planned all around Australia. Type1 Mum ambassadors in each town act as hosts to connect mums from all over their cities or towns.

We are parents, individuals, advocates, medical practitioners and supporters that make up a village for families living with Type 1 Diabetes. We aim to be the link for families seeking support and information. We provide support to help live positively with Type 1 Diabetes.
Ongoing awareness of this condition is crucial for community understanding, government support, development, and access to the latest technology in managing this condition.
We aim to create a generation of young people with Type 1 Diabetes who understand, accept and properly manage their condition responsibly.
