Our People
Meet the T1F board, supporters, volunteers and some of our long term advocates
Ange Liston-McCaughley is the founder and CEO of the Type 1 Foundation, a Victorian charity that supports the emotional journey of families experiencing a new diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes and connecting them to a community of Type 1 families. Ange is married to her childhood sweetheart Leif McCaughley, who is also very involved in the running of the charity.
The idea for the foundation came to her after running a marathon, just one of 10 marathons she would run that year, crossing the line in a tutu and raising awareness for Type 1 diabetes here in Australia.
Ange is an inspirational woman with a strong vision and clear focus to support others, she is a mum of four gorgeous children and comes from a large family. Ange grew up in Melbourne, before relocating her family to Geelong in 2009.
Ange’s daughter, Lila, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 9 (she is now a young woman). A traumatic misdiagnosis that became a life-threatening situation, one that Ange will forever say no family should ever have to experience. This was the main catalyst for forming the Foundation, to create mass community awareness of the symptoms and to support and connect others.
After deciding to become a marathon runner, Ange went on to run twelve marathons all after having her children. She proudly completed one in each state of Australia and then ran the New York City Marathon to take her message of Type 1 diabetes awareness to the world.
Not only is Ange extremely relaxed, friendly and caring, with a background in fashion designand events, Ange rocks out any outfit with style and certainly knows how to organise a large-scale event with precision and ease.
